The program requires the heat pump to meet specific eligibility requirements, including being listed on Natural Resources Canada's qualified products list. Pre-approval is required before installation in order to qualify for the rebate.
For income-eligible households, the Save on Energy Energy Affordability Program may also provide a cold-climate air-source heat pump at no cost, including installation, for qualifying homes heated by electricity or oil. Eligibility depends on household income and other program requirements.
Because heat pumps provide both heating and cooling, they can be an attractive option for Oakville homeowners looking to replace or upgrade their air-conditioning system while also improving their home's year-round efficiency. A standard central air conditioner does not receive the same specific heat-pump rebate.
